Join us in a fun family class learning to make animal pots. Choose to use air drying clay, add a fun throwing taster on the wheel and paint your creations for firing in our kiln. A fun and creative experience not to be missed!
This is a mixed age activity suitable for everyone. Please book spaces for all adults and children in your group. If you are bringing a child under 5 or someone with special needs and an adult would like to attend as a helper without making pieces themselves please write this in the notes on booking.
Animal Pots
In the class you will use a range of techniques including pinching, mark making, and relief. You can make your pots from special air drying clay which contains nylon fibres, allowing it to dry strong and hard wearing without the need for firing. Take your pots straight home with you after the workshop to dry. These can then be painted with acrylic paints (available to buy at the studio). Air drying clay pots are ideally for decorative use and artificial plants. Adding an acrylic varnish to all surfaces will help make them water tight but to ensure they are completely waterproof adding the glazed and fired option is recommended.

Glazing and Firing with extra 30 minutes – optional extra
If you would like to paint your planters with a huge assortment of exciting glazes we will fire them for you in our studio kiln. This will turn your pots from clay into colourful, shiny and waterproof pottery, making them ideal for real plants. Fired pottery can be collected at a later date (takes approximately 1 month).

Wheel Throwing Taster with extra 30 minutes – optional extra
Try your hand throwing a pot on the potter’s wheel! This is a fun and messy activity and gives children and adults a chance to have a go at this interesting skill. Your thrown pots can be taken straight home or if you have added glazing and firing to your booking you will be able to paint your pots in the studio for firing in our kiln, turning the clay into pottery.
