Workshops and Family Classes

Book LIving crafts 2024

We run a variety of fun and creative group pottery workshops throughout the year where you can get your creative juices flowing. You will learn to make a range of unique pieces to treasure. Workshops include those aimed at adults and older children where you will make more complex projects such as tea light houses and animal sculpture, and shorter fun workshops for all ages offering tasters on the pottery wheel and hand building all sorts of unique creations.

Join us at Living Crafts at Hatfield House on 9th-12th May 2024. Workshops are pre-bookable on their website.

Group Workshops

We love to offer a variety of one-off workshops where you can make a range of exciting pottery projects in a sociable group setting.  Examples of our workshops include animal sculpture, tea light houses, vases, seasonal decorations, mugs and more. If you have a particular project in mind or something you would like to make in a workshop please let us know.

In the workshops you will learn a range of creative pottery techniques, in handbuilding and the pottery wheel, enabling you to make and glaze your unique piece ready for firing to a high standard. There is a large selection of inspirational materials; images, forms, tools, textures, glazes and colours to spark your imagination and make your work stand out.

Workshops are great for adults and accompanied children over 7 unless otherwise specified.

Family Classes

These classes are great for all ages; adults and children. Classes are project based, learning to make a variety of seasonal creations such as model animals, planters, Halloween and Christmas decorations, bedroom name plates and lots more! You can also opt to add a wheel throwing taster where available.

You can either use air-drying clay where you can take your creations home at the end of the session for painting or for an extra special pottery piece you can glaze your pieces with a huge range of colours and these can be fired for a later collection (usually takes around a month).

At the end of this fun clay adventure, everyone will have their own pottery creation to take home and cherish, as well as some new found pottery making skills.

Testimonials

We had a brilliant time with Talia, she is lovely, very friendly and patient, helping us through every stage of throwing our first pots on the potters wheel. We were then let loose to be creative, decorating them with a huge range of glazes. All in all, a lovely and different way to spend 3 hours and get the kids away from their phones for a change! I highly recommend it.

My 11 year old daughters did a 2 hour pottery wheel session with Carole. They had a brilliant time and managed to make a pot each which they then painted. Carole is lovely and a great, patient teacher! Highly recommended for a fun and different experience.

My daughter had her 9th birthday party at Clay with Carole. There were seven other children and they all had a lovely time. It was very much a hands on and the children enjoyed what was very much a unique experience for them. Carole and Talia made sure that they all ended up with a respectable looking pot which they then fired and painted and we were able to pick the pots up after they had been glazed. Carole and Talia were very generous with their time, and not only did we do pots but also finger bowls. I really feel the children learnt a lot and had a good time at the same time. Recommended.

Great day of creative fun. We all managed to create something we are all super chuffed with. We learnt different techniques and all 3 decided to make something different. Great morning!
Thanks Carole.

Had a lovely afternoon with Talia yesterday. She showed my nearly 2yo and me how to coil a pot and how to do a pinching technique.
My little boy was able to squash, poke and roll the clay before cutting, scoring, setting and sticking it together. We worked together and made 3 lovely pots! Although I needed to support him a lot and it’s clear from the end product he didn’t do it on his own, I feel he was able to be a big part of the process and he seemed to really enjoy it!
Thank you for sharing your expertise! Can’t wait to join you again over the summer!

We had such a lovely afternoon. Carole is an excellent teacher. The materials were all provided. It was not easy but we all end up with nice pots. I will heartly recommend it for a great family afternoon.
